Urban Sentry series

For the last five years, I have been working on a series of photographs of various devices and objects that are a standard part of the urban infrastructure all over the world.  The Urban Sentry series is a typology of manhole covers, electrical cables, vents, valves, fire pumps, standpipes, and other elements.  The purpose of these objects is somewhat mysterious (at least to me), but they are vaguely comforting.  Developed and maintained within a regulatory context and culture, they convey a feeling of safety, stability, and protection with an oddly satisfying aesthetic appeal.
