Urban Sentry series  This is a work in progress.

For the last five years, I have been working on a series of photographs of various devices and objects that are a standard part of the urban infrastructure.  They appear in cities all over the world. The Urban Sentry series is a typology of manhole covers, electrical cables, vents, valves, fire pumps, standpipes, and other elements.  The function of these objects is somewhat mysterious (at least to me), but I find them vaguely comforting.  Developed and maintained within a regulatory context and culture and displaying an industrial aesthetic, they convey a feeling of safety, stability, and protection.
