Teaching Experience

I taught photography for 20+ years from 1981 to 2002.  My career as a photography teacher began in 1981 at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Much of my teaching experiences took place at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University in Halifax where I taught for 15 years from 1987 to 2002.   My courses included studio, foundation, history, and theory courses, as well as  technical courses, such as lighting, black & white darkroom, and colour printing.

During my final three years at NSCAD, from 1999 to 2002, I served as NSCAD’s Interim Dean in an acting capacity.  This was a senior-level administrative position with responsibilities for the coordination and delivery of undergraduate and graduate programs.

In addition to my teaching experiences at NSCAD and the NB College of Craft and Design, I also taught photography for numerous continuing education programs, including programs offered by the University of New Brunswick, Mount Saint Vincent University, Technical University of Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University, and Mount Allison University.

In the mid-1980s, I was a co-director and workshop leader for the Maritime Photographic Workshops - a popular summer-time program in Fredericton which organized week-long courses led by high-profile photography artists and photojournalists.
